It all started in 2010…

Brown undergraduates achieve many milestones by their senior year. Theories in Action (TiA) is an opportunity for seniors to share those milestones and their reflections on them in public.

Now in its 10th year, TiA has given over 600 seniors a forum to share their ideas. There are two presentation formats: Roundtable Discussions, in which the TiA coordinators assemble speakers around themes, and a Poster Session paired with a semi-formal reception.

In 2019, we’ll ask participants to consider their mentoring relationships, and invite their mentors and mentees to be audience members. TiA is open to the public.

This symposium is a special opportunity for seniors to be a part of an event that celebrates their accomplishments—their journeys at Brown—and provides them with a moment to reflect on their pathways forward.

Roundtable presenters and poster session participants will receive a training on best practices in presenting and public speaking.

We’d love to see some creative projects—readings, performances, installations, too!

What are TiA's goals?

• Provide seniors with an opportunity to publicly present and reflect on their ongoing and/or culminating academic, artistic, or co-curricular projects.

• Invite mentors and mentees of the presenters to share their perspectives as audience members.

• Celebrate seniors’ journeys, multidisciplinarity, and the pathways forward.

When and where does TiA occur?

• TiA 2019 will take place Tuesday, April 30 through Thursday, May 2 in the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center.

• During the week there are roundtable sessions with senior presenters, whose projects/experiences center around a common theme. Sessions will occur in the late morning through the early evening.

• The poster session features presentations with a reception in Leung Gallery; it will take place on Thursday, May 2, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Who is TiA open to?

• May and December Seniors may apply to present their work.

• The Brown community—undergraduates, faculty, staff, administration, greater Providence community members, families, and friends—are invited to attend any TiA session.

• The presentations are open to the public.
